School Goes to the Movies 2025

In an interview with TH+, Fernando Cachaça talks about CAUIM's actions and projects, and how the project has a social impact.

CAUIM Project: Transforming Lives with Cinema

The CAUIM Film Club returns with its traditional free movie screenings for students in the Ribeirão Preto municipal public school system. This initiative, which has been captivating and transforming the cultural experience of children and young people for over 40 years, provides unique and enriching moments.

Tradition and Innovation

For over four decades, the CAUIM Project has established itself as the largest children's film program in the world. Today, many students are watching a movie for the first time, while others have been part of this tradition that evolves every year. Fernando Cachaça, one of the initiative's enthusiasts, highlights the emotion of seeing the "kids" captivated by cinema.

Recognition and International Partnerships

Last year, our project was taken to France, where Raí presented this social transformation initiative. Furthermore, we established an agreement with a university in Cuba, a unique event worldwide, which proves the singularity of CAUIM. There is no other project that offers film screenings for children in such a regular and integrated way with education.

New things that will delight you.

Among the new features, CAUIM now offers popcorn and natural juice – items that were not previously available. In partnership with the mayor and the Secretary of Education, we are also studying the possibility of distributing a book to each child, strengthening the connection between culture, literature, and education.

Curatorship and Pedagogical Participation

The selection of films is made with great care, taking into account the age range and educational needs of each group. Teachers actively participate in the selection, ensuring that the titles address relevant themes such as citizenship, ecology, and environmental education. After the screenings, the return to school allows teachers to integrate the cinematic experience into the institution's political-pedagogical project.

Impact on the School Community

Student feedback is unanimous: movie time surpasses traditional recess breaks. Teachers and administrators emphasize that the activity promotes an educational outing that enriches the school experience, contributing to the development of critical and participatory citizenship. CAUIM is, without a doubt, one of the most beloved projects in Ribeirão Preto.

Organization and Scheduling

The scheduling of sessions is done in conjunction with the Department of Education, which allows schools to register in an organized manner. This methodology ensures that all students can participate without disruption and that the project follows its schedule until September – with the possibility of new tenders for its continuation in the coming years.

A Multimedia Cultural Space

The CAUIM space goes beyond just movie screenings. With activities extending from morning to night, the venue hosts musical projects and other cultural initiatives. In addition to "Ribeirão em Cena," the CAUIM Film Club welcomes groups that have been active for over 30 years, transforming the space into a true multimedia hub for the community.

An Invitation to Transformation

The CAUIM Project is more than just a movie screening – it's a movement that unites culture, education, and citizenship. We invite the entire community to learn about and support this initiative, which has the power to transform dreams into reality and uniquely impact the lives of our students.
