Cauim held a special session for deaf people.

The session took place on Friday, August 9th, and is part of the "Ribeirão Goes to the Cinema" Project, organized by parents and sign language teachers from the city.

Going to the cinema and watching a Brazilian film is, besides being enjoyable, much easier since the language spoken is our good old Portuguese, right? Not if you are deaf or have a high degree of hearing loss. With international films it's simpler, since Portuguese subtitles are mandatory in foreign language films. However, those with hearing impairments will only be able to understand the dialogues and the setting of the Brazilian film if there is a special descriptive subtitle shown along with the film.

Allowing people with low or no hearing to have full access to cinema is one of the goals of the "Ribeirão Goes to the Cinema" Project, as it is a project that includes social inclusion among its objectives. Thus, at the request of parents of deaf people and teachers of Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) in the city, a special session was organized, with a national film shown with descriptive subtitles, which took place last Friday at the Cauim cinema. Parents, teachers, and many deaf people were there to participate in a morning that brought much joy to everyone.
