VII Brazilian Meeting of Scenic Choirs: Movement gains prominence in Ribeirão Preto

Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo – The VII Brazilian Scenic Choir Meeting is scheduled to take place from December 7th to 10th at the Guarani Aquifer Memorial – MAG, located at Rua Olavo Bilac, 135. The event, organized by the Bossa Nossa Scenic Choir, with the support of the NGOs Cineclube Cauim, Kabuki and Cineclube Canarinho, promises to be a landmark for the scenic choir movement in Brazil.
The initiative arose from the perception that choral work in Brazil differs from the traditional approach, which imagines a static group in formal attire. Izaíra Silvino, a pioneer of this innovative approach, along with Marcos Leite and Samuel Kerr, revolutionized the national choral scene, introducing the idea of singing with movement and integrating stage presence with musical performance.

The VII Brazilian Scenic Choir Meeting will continue to explore themes such as singing with movement, illustrating music through movement, and more elaborate approaches where scenic quality is valued as much as musical quality. Details about these discussions can be found in the texts by the Scenic and Artistic Director of the Bossa Nossa Scenic Choir, available [here/at this link]. on the group's website. The website also features video clips of the group's performances, providing an in-depth look at their work.

The event will consist of three distinct activities: a virtual choral showcase on December 7th at 5 PM, a discussion about the process of creating a scenic choir on December 8th, and choral performances, along with the Kabuki Arts Showcase, throughout the day on December 10th.
Highlights include live performances by three groups: Coro Cênico Bossa Nossa, with 30 years of history, on December 8th at 8:30 PM; Canarinhos da Terra from UNICAMP, on December 9th at 4:00 PM; and Céu da Boca, from Santos, on December 9th at 8:00 PM.
The full program will be available on the group's website at the end of November, and registration is free and open to the general public.
The debate, which will include the participation of all groups, will be a crucial moment to discuss and reflect on the innovative work of each participant. Unlike previous editions, the groups are invited to attend all the performances presented, and the debate becomes a unique opportunity to reflect on the production process of each group.
With over 30 groups across Brazil regularly working with the fusion of stage performance and music, the event aims to highlight the importance of organically approaching the stage aspect, not just as an illustration of the music, but as a unique artistic expression, gaining depth and its own identity.
