Hamlet<\/strong><\/em> It is, without a doubt, one of the most celebrated tragedies written by William Shakespeare, an English playwright and poet born in 1564 and died in 1616.<\/p>\n\n

Written between 1599 and 1601, the play, whose central character is the prince Hamlet<\/strong>, The Danish novel has been adapted for film numerous times. Two of these adaptations were extremely significant: the one made in 1948 by actor and filmmaker Laurence Olivier (1907-1989) and the one made in 1964 by the Soviet director Grigori Kozintsev (1905-1973).<\/p>\n\n

Now, in 2025, Chinese filmmaker Chlo\u00e9 Zhao directed (she also collaborated on the screenplay) the film. Hamnet: Life Before Hamlet<\/em><\/strong> (Hamnet<\/em><\/strong>, (in the original).<\/p>\n\n

Set in 1580s England, the film, produced by Amblin Partners and Hera Pictures, delves into the life of Agnes (Jessie Buckley), a woman with a unique spiritual connection to nature, and her husband, a young tutor and playwright (Paul Mescal). While he seeks success on the London stage, Agnes faces the devastation of the plague that strikes her family in Stratford. The plot focuses on the painful loss of her eleven-year-old son, Hamnet, and how this grief becomes the creative catalyst for her husband's most famous work, Hamlet<\/em><\/strong>. It's a visceral narrative about motherhood, female resilience, and the transformation of pain into timeless art.<\/p>\n\n

Hamnet: Life Before Hamlet<\/em><\/strong> It is approximately two hours long and is loosely inspired by real characters and events.<\/p>\n\n

And starting next day\u00a0March 12<\/strong>\u00a0(Thursday<\/strong>and even\u00a0March 18<\/strong>\u00a0(Wednesday<\/strong>), the\u00a0Cauim Film Club<\/strong>, the real movie theater in Ribeir\u00e3o Preto, will be showing Hamnet: Life Before Hamlet<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

There will be two daily sessions: one at\u00a016 hours<\/strong>\u00a0(four o'clock in the afternoon<\/strong>) and another to\u00a07:30 PM<\/strong>\u00a0(seven thirty at night<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n

There is a maintenance fee: R$ 20.00 for a full ticket, R$ 10.00 for a half ticket.<\/p>\n\n

But there is also a promotion: on Thursday (March 12<\/strong>) and on Friday (March 13<\/strong>Everyone pays only R$ 10.00.<\/p>\n\n

And the\u00a0Cauim<\/strong>, the film club that promotes citizenship by showcasing excellent contemporary films.<\/p>\n\n
